Cummins Inc., a global leader in power technology, announced on Monday 9th January 2024 that it will invest $580 million in its Rocky Mount Engine Plant (RMEP) in Nash County, North Carolina. The project is expected to create about 80 new jobs and boost the local economy.

The investment will involve installing new equipment for the future of manufacturing and upgrading the assembly line for next-generation products. These products are part of Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy, which aims to achieve zero emissions across its products by 2050.

Cummins has received approval for tax incentives from the Nash County Commissioner’s office, which will support the continued investment in the area. The company has a 40-year history in Nash County and currently employs 2,000 people at the RMEP facility.

Steve Pinkston, Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant Manager, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to the community and innovation.

“We are excited to be driving continued growth within Nash County and creating jobs that rely on high-caliber technology for the future,” Pinkston said. “Cummins is focused on Destination Zero and getting there as quickly as possible. We need engagement from federal, state, and local governments like Nash County to achieve our goals and we are grateful for their support.”

He added that the investment also reaffirms Cummins’ dedication to the region’s economic vitality and its impactful presence for the foreseeable future.

Cummins is a leader in decarbonization and fuel-agnostic engine technology, which can help customers reduce their environmental impact and adapt to changing regulations and preferences. The company offers a range of products that can run on diesel, natural gas, hydrogen, battery, or hybrid systems.

The RMEP facility produces engines for various markets, including medium-duty trucks, school and transit buses, recreational vehicles, light-duty automotive, agriculture, construction, mining, marine, rail, oil and gas, defense, and power generation.
